State e-health solutions
The Estonian e-Prescription System
Estonia’s e-Prescription system was the world’s first digital prescription platform, designed to be a centralized and paperless system utilized by doctors, patients, and pharmacies. Despite the task’s complexity, Helmes completed the design in three years, and the system came online in 2010. By the end of the first year, 84% of prescriptions in Estonia were already issued digitally, and 97% of users reported satisfaction with the service. Today, the Estonian e-prescription is valid in six other EU countries as part of the shift towards cross-border digital prescriptions.

Register of Medicinal Products
The purpose of the system, commissioned by the State Agency for Medicine, is to keep account ofall medicinal products and their packages sold in Estonia. It provides doctors and patients quick access to information about medicines with delivery difficulties and their alternatives.
E-services for the Estonian Social Insurance Board
Estonia’s self-service portal of the Estonian Social Insurance Board, one of Estonia’s most extensive public IT systems, allows residents to conveniently apply to determine the severity of their disability and request related social benefits. At the same time, the Social Insurance Board staff and medical experts can process applications more efficiently and allocate support faster.

School e-Health Information System
The e-Health system allows secure data exchange between school doctors and family physicians and makes health information accessible to doctors. The solution also includes a settlement system that generates invoices for work done and submits them to the Health Insurance Fund. The system serves around two-thirds of Estonian full-time students.

Health Management Information System for the Latvian National Health Service
Latvia’s Health Information Management System constitutes a key element of its national health system infrastructure and supports planning and overseeing the distribution of the national healthcare budget. Helmes achieved integration with public registries such as the population registry, e-Service portal, and the e-Health system.
Latvian e-Health System
The integrated system for patients, healthcare professionals, and public institutions in the health sector is accessible via the e-Health portal. Helmes developed sick leave processing, e-prescriptions for medical devices, and integrations with public registries (social security, tax authority).
Software development for hospitals and clinics
Hospital healthcare software and self-service solutions
Helmes is a development partner of Estonia’s premier hospital that aims to custom-develop a unified hospital information system. The IT systems and self-service solutions delivered by Helmes include a radiology information system to manage radiology workflow and custom appointment scheduling software. Ongoing projects include solutions for intensive care units and organizing patient transport.
Back-office application for a private clinic group
The solution developed for a fast-growing private clinic group digitalizes back-office tasks, such as booking appointments, compiling schedules, managing client contracts, issuing notifications and invoices, etc. The solution significantly reduces the workload of the staff and minimizes the possibility of human error.

Medical information system for a private healthcare institution
Custom-built for a large private healthcare provider, the solution is an innovative workspace tailored to the needs of doctors. The workspace has modules for GPs, specialized doctors, rehabilitation doctors, and physiotherapists, each adjusted to their differing work practices and documentation requirements. The solution is integrated with different external systems, allowing the staff to access all necessary information in the same place.
Feedback collection app for hospital
During the COVID-19 pandemic, we built a feedback collection app in less than three months to be used by frontline healthcare workers on portable devices. The app would allow hospital management to analyze the feedback and make rapid improvements to hospital operations, efficiency, and patient care.
Mobile telemedicine platform
In this project, Helmes revamped a telemedicine platform solution with new core functionalities that allow patients to engage with doctors and nurses and obtain health consultations remotely.
Innovative pharmacy solutions
Software for next-generation autonomous pharmacy
Our client develops fully autonomous, modular robotic store technology. Their pioneering autonomous pharmacy allows customers to buy over-the-counter medicines while being remotely consulted by a pharmacist. Helmes was in charge of software development in the project – the buyer self-service, the pharmacist business portal, and the service person maintenance applications.
An e-Pharmacy platform
This e-Pharmacy platform in Estonia allows customers to buy online over-the-counter medicines, prescription medicines, and other medical products sold in pharmacies. The solution runs well in the national market, supporting a physical pharmacy’s online sales.
Other solutions for the healthcare sector
Clinical interpretation software
The software developed by Helmes for an international digital health company allows researchers to shorten the analysis of genomic data. The solution cuts the time needed to analyze and interpret genetic diseases from 20 hours to as little as 5 minutes.
Movement rehabilitation software
Our client is a leading provider of devices and services for movement rehabilitation. Helmes redefined the user journey in the system that connects their products, devices, and hospital information systems, thus enabling care specialists to manage and keep track of patient treatment and device data.
Mobile app for sarcoma patients
We developed an app for both Android and iOS platforms for an NGO client with the goal of helping sarcoma patients in the country. The app covers medical information about the diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and other relevant topics, all of which have been approved by medical personnel.
Back office tool for a cancer treatment foundation
As a charity project, Helmes custom-built a back-office tool that helps a privately initiated cancer treatment support foundation to manage the application process and available resources more efficiently.
Application for chemical waste safety and compliance
Helmes upgraded and added new functionalities to an application used by healthcare and life sciences companies to collect information, report, and prepare accompanying documentation on chemical wastes and their toxicity.
Customer support solution for a female health app
Helmes delivered an advanced customized Zendesk extension for the support team of a popular women’s health and wellbeing app.
